The Goldstein Museum of Design

McNeal Hall

Established in 1976, and named in honor of the Goldstein sisters, The Goldstein Museum of Design (GMD) is a research center in the College of Design and the only design museum in the Upper Midwest. Through our teaching collection of 36,000+ multidisciplinary objects and free, public exhibitions on the St. Paul and East Bank campuses, we advance learning in design history and practice for students and the greater community.

GMD's research center, staff, collections, and main gallery are based in McNeal Hall on the St. Paul campus. The building links an original Home Economics hall (pictured above), where Harriet and Vetta Goldstein taught from 1910–1949, with an addition from 1976 (pictured left), the year the museum was established.

We look forward to seeing you at our events (below) and exhibitions!

To visit objects in our teaching collection—for scholarly research or general interest—please contact us for an appointment at least two weeks in advance. We are happy to help guide your request but our online database is a good place to start!
