Falling Leaves Handbag

Sandra Starkey, Designer, Lincoln, NE

The exterior of the Falling Leaves Handbag is comprised of 100% repurposed materials. The handbag accommodates modern technology on the inside with a smart phone pocket making the handbag relevant to current trends in both fashion and technology. A detachable shoulder strap is included for versatility.

The front flap is a collage of repurposed leather pieces that are hand and machine stitched to repurposed wool. A discarded piece of machine made lace is cut and hand-stitched over the leather and wool to add the final layer. Knotted leather gathers the side panels and replaces hardware. The magnetic snap, zipper, detachable strap, hardware, and lining fabric in the interior are new materials.

Montana Agate Signature Bag

Sandra Starkey, Designer, Lincoln, NE

The Montana Agate Signature Bag incorporates used materials in a new modern design. As designers we need to think about the materials we use and how our choices will affect our designs as well as the environment. Repurposed leather and suede show minimal wear and can be reused with beautiful results. t

The exterior is 100% repurposed leather and suede from old coats. Montana Agates were carefully chosen from the personal collection of a local geologist and integrated into the linked component on front. New materials include a cotton lining and the sterling silver that I used to create the embellishment on front. The bag can be carried with the strap or the strap can be tucked behind and carried as a clutch for versatility.
