Cocktail Dress

Tanga Elena, Student, University of Arts
"George Enescu," Romania

Creative solutions for the 21 century will adopt the idea of sustainable design, using environmentally-friendly materials and methods in clothing production. It is a way of designing that creates not only pieces of fashion but pieces of art. Fashion is all about change, and sustainability is all about preservation.

I redesigned my sister’s wedding dress into a cocktail dress that accentuates a woman’s form. Redesigning clothes is ecofriendly fashion. Recognizing the value of recycled clothing could be a huge step in making a difference in our environmental impact. Redesigning used clothing may sound a bit anti-fashion, but even an haute couture designer like Martin Margiela has lines of “garments remodeled by hand.”
