GRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES

Jerome Joss Internship

Description
The Goldstein Museum of Design's Jerome Joss program is an annual internship that provides the opportunity for a CDES graduate student to combine individual interests and skills with object-based research. GMD's permanent collection holds over 28,000 objects, and lends itself to a broad range of research topics. This 40 hour internship includes a $1000 stipend payable upon completion of the project.

Application Requirements
Requests for proposals for the 2014 Jermone Joss Internship will be issued after January 1, 2014.

Lila Bath Assistantship

Description

The Goldstein Museum of Design’s (GMD) Bath Collection Assistant is a 9 month, 25% time position for a College of Design graduate student in apparel studies or a related program.  The Bath collections assistant reports to GMD’s assistant curator and assists with education and collections management activities.

Application Requirements

Applicants must be graduate students enrolled in the College of Design and indicate a preference for this assistantship through the U of MN’s graduate student Employment System. Applicants should also submit a letter of interest and resume to Lucy Dunne at ldunne@umn.edu and Jean McElvain at jmcelvai@umn.edu by January 31st. Notice of the award will come from the Department of Design, Housing, and Apparel.

 

Waller Collections Assistantship

Description

The Collections Assistantship is a 9 month, 50% time graduate student position open to students in the Department of Design, Housing, and Apparel. The collections assistant aids the museum’s assistant curator with education and collections development activities, such as retrieving objects for classes, developing files for new acquisitions, developing collections displays for the cases in McNeal Hall, and assisting with programs and events. The collections assistant reports to the assistant curator.

Waller Communications Assistantship

Description

The Communications Assistantship is a 9-month, 50% time graduate student position open to students in the Department of Design, Housing, and Apparel. The communications assistant manages GMD’s public relations, communications, social media, and member publications. The communications assistant reports to the director.

UNDERGRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES

Gallery Staff

Description

GMD employs undergraduate students to staff McNeal Hall's Gallery 241. Successful candidates will have excellent customer service and an ability to work independently. Gallery staff members are front-line visitor services representatives during an exhibition’s open hours and installation staff between exhibitions.  Gallery staff members report to the administrative assistant.

Application Requirements
